RESIDENTS AGAINST THE INTERMODAL DEVELOPMENT

Saving Moorebank from an industrial disaster

RAID is a residents action group made up of locals who live within a few kilometers of the proposed intermodal precinct. Its objective is to win back a valuable precinct for the citizens of Liverpool - to make sure that access to the river front is open to all and to promote the best possible use of the land in the Moorebank Precinct.

RAID opposes the development  for many reasons, but in brief because:

  • It is poor planning and 19th Century thinking to lock up a large tract of riverfront land for a container terminal when there are good locations closer to the container's destination (Eastern Creek) and where there is a lot of land unsuitable for residential development (Badgerys Creek).
  • The location is very close to houses and residents will be impacted by light and noise as has recently been proven to be the case in the Port Botany precinct
  • There is no whole of precinct plan and no cumulative impact assessment
  • Each project is trying to provide around 400% of the capacity required for Sydney's South West. There is no good reason to build 800% of the regions needs.
  • Sydney's South West already has extremely congested roads and adding a high volume of port traffic to the roads is unsupportable without billions in government (taxpayer) funds to redevelop dozens of intersections
  • The ecology of the Georges River and Cumberland Plain woodland is valuable and should not be subject to the inevitable damage caused by such large scale development
  • The South West is already serviced by several Intermodal Terminals
